Skyproxy was performed with Adam Zaretsky August 14, 2009 at the Banff New Media Institute, as part of Interactive Screen 0.9
The performers sat facing each other, separated by a table, on which each had a computer and an active cellphone. The performers then spoke with each other over all available media, including video chat, instant messaging, cellular phones, and analog speach.
Audience members were invited up to try talking to each other as well. While some participants had no difficulty integrating themselves immediately, others found the flood of communicative devices severely inhibited their ability to express themselves. Two of the participants discovered that they had an amazing connection: one’s grandfather had liberated a concentration camp that the other participant’s grandparents had been in.
